Bacteria were isolated from Union Glacier, Antarctica, and their ability to biosynthesize quantum dots was evaluated. The quantum dots biosynthesized by these bacteria had special characteristics, such as high photostability under UV light. Also, these bacteria were proved to correspond to novel species.
