Members of Constituency Organizations, 1990

The purpose of the survey is to examine people's interest in politics, membership of constituency organizations/political youth organizations as well as people's attitudes to a number of central assertions about constituency organizations. Following the introductory text 'In the public debate it is sometimes claimed that it is very important that the political parties have many members whereas some people are of the opinion that it is not that important. - What is your attitude to these questions?') the respondents were asked about their attitude to the following statements: # #- 'As a member one contributes towards a strengthening of the # party and thereby exerts influence on the development of # society'. #- 'There is no real democracy in a political party after all - # everything is usually controlled by a small number of people'. #- 'Trade unions and the employers' associations - not the # parties - decide most of what goes on in society'. #- 'As a member one has influence on the party's platform and # politics'. #- 'People already contribute to the parties via the taxes so # there is no reason for becoming a member'. #- 'The political parties are only interested in people's votes, # not in people's opinions'
