This dataset presents the stable oxygen isotope composition of garnets and the stable carbon isotope composition of carbonates in a metamorphic aureole. These measurements were used to understand the hydrothermal history of a skarn in the Sierra Nevada batholith of California. Whereas the oxygen isotope composition of garnets directly trace the fluids from which they crystallize, the oxygen and stable carbon isotope compositions of carbonates (calcite, limestone, marble) in metamorphic environments can be used to determine the drivers of decarbonation reactions (i.e. those that form calc-silicate minerals that comprise skarns).
