Measuring gambling and problem gambling in Ontario 2001 [Canada]

The overall goal of this study was to improve the understanding of the extent and nature of gambling among adults in Ontario. The key objectives of the study were: 1) to determine the prevalence of gambling and problem gambling within the population of adults in Ontario, 2) to describe and analyze the characteristics and behaviour of individuals experiencing gambling related problems, 3) to describe and analyze the relationship between problem gambling and substance use, and 4) to offer recommendations that may assist Ontario agencies in targeting and designing treatment, prevention and education programs that aid problem gamblers. This is the CPGI baseline study of the prevalence of gambling and problem gambling in Ontario (N=4,631).
