HadRM3 European Regional Climate Simulation for UKCIP02 - historical run (3 element ensemble)

The Hadley Centre Regional Model Version 3 is a configuration of the HadCM3 model designed to provide high resolution climate simulations of limited areas. It is based on the atmospheric component of HadCM3 with some modifications to the model physics. HadRM3 is typically configured with a horizontal resolution of 0.44 degrees latitude and 0.44 degrees longitude (approximately 50km) and uses a time step of 5 minutes to maintain numerical stability. The model was designed to take boundary conditions from coarser resolution global model simulations, in this case HadAM3, and provides a higher spatial resolution of the local topography and more realistic simulations of fine-scale climate features. The HadRM3 model was first used by the Hadley Centre for the UK Climate Impacts Programme 2002. Subsequently it has been used for a number of other high resolution regional climate simulation studies, including a number of ensemble projects. The historical simulation contained in this dataset covers the period from 1959-1991 and includes forcings that are consistent with historical levels of green house gases (including methane), sulfur (direct and indirect forcing, sulphur chemistry without natural DMS and SO2 background emissions; anthropogenic SO2 emissions from surface and high level only) and tropospheric/stratospheric ozone. To reduce the noise of natural variability the simulation was run three times with different initial conditions.
