Global Household Microbiome Analysis

This study aimed to characterize the household microbiome in three cities - Tucson, USA, Dubai, UAE, and Mysuru, India. Ten samples were collected from a range of locations within the house (kitchen, bathroom, and living spaces) in ten houses per city. The bacterial and viral microbiomes were characterized, along with antibiotic resistance genes, virulence factors, and presence of pathogenic organism DNA. The alpha and beta diversity of the microbiome, antibiotic resistance factors, and virulence factors was characterized, as well as the core microbiome, resistome, and set of virulence factors.
