In this study, we identified the negative relationship between increasing global UV radiation and crop P efficiency worldwide. We then elucidated the molecular mechanisms of the reciprocal antagonistic interaction between UV-radiation adaptation and P-availability response, which are conserved from chlorophytes to gymnosperms to angiosperms. Importantly, we also developed an efficient genetic modification method for the cultivation of UV-tolerant plants by manipulating the activities of P master regulators.
