Age pyramid of retirees in France 2021, by gender

As of December 31, 2021, two-thirds of French retirees covered by the general pension plan were between 63 and 78 years old, and only about one percent of them were age 60 or younger. Of the retirees under age 60, more than 90 percent were women. Women were also more prevalent among centenarian retirees than men. In fact, in 2021, there were 62 women retirees over age 110 in France, compared to nine men of the same age.In 2021, the average age of retirement was 62.9 years old.
