Microbial methane formation from different lithotypes of Miocene lignites from Konin region, Poland. Cultured microorganisms

The research compares the yield of microbial methane production by cultures grown on different lithotypes of Miocene lignite obtained from Konin region in Poland, and attempts to understand processes responsible for methanogenesis. Series of batch experiments with detritic and xylitic lignites, inoculated with microorganisms from an external source (anaerobic chamber of the waste-water treatment plant in sugar factory) were carried out. The phylogenetic composition of these cultures was determined based on 16S rDNA gene profiling.
