Research Dynamics on Urban Stormwater Runoff Pollution and Control Based on Bibliometric Approach

Urban stormwater runoff pollution is a significant source of water environmental pollution in China. Research on its control is crucial for mitigating urban water body pollution, promoting water environmental protection and governance, facilitating rational water resource utilization, and advancing urban sustainable development. To track research hotspots and frontiers in urban stormwater runoff pollution control, a bibliometric analysis of relevant literature from 2015 to 2024 was conducted based on the Web of Science core database. The results indicate a substantial increase in publication volume over the past decade. China and the United States dominate the field, collectively accounting for over 50% of publications, with China's research output growing rapidly and surpassing that of the United States in recent years. Research spans multiple disciplines including environment, ecology, engineering, and economics, covering areas such as pollution source characterization, monitoring and assessment, and control technologies. Future research should prioritize investigating the mechanisms of runoff pollution characteristics under changing conditions, the migration and environmental behavior of emerging contaminants in stormwater runoff, developing green stormwater runoff pollution control technologies, and exploring the application of smart management and control technologies.
