Register of Foreigners Residing in Dee Lay Jao Police District" (提籃橋分局外人名簿)

This dataset contains a structured digital transcription of the 1944 refugee registration compiled by the Japanese-controlled police authorities in the Dee Lay Jao (Tilanqiao) district of Shanghai. It includes biographical and demographic information for over 14,700 individuals—primarily Jewish refugees from Germany, Austria, Poland, and other European countries—who had fled to Shanghai during the Second World War. The dataset captures key variables such as name, sex, age, nationality, address, and occupation. The original source was published as part of the book Exil Shanghai. 1938–1947. Jüdisches Leben in der Emigration, edited by Georg Armbrüster, Michael Kohlstruck, and Sonja Mühlberger (Hentrich & Hentrich, 2002), which included a CD-ROM with the complete registry. The dataset has been cleaned and standardized for scholarly use, enabling socio-demographic, spatial, and network-based analyses of the wartime refugee population in Shanghai.
