VPRS 18403 Index Cards to Railway and Tramway Electrical Engineering Plans and Drawings

These cards appear to have been used by the Electrical Engineering Department of Victorian Railways for reference to both Railway and Tram Plans and drawings relating to the Electrical Engineering Branch. It includes some references to the superseded index system of the Electrical Engineering Branch of Victorian Railways. They form a different set to the single number R prefix plan room archive system which used a three tier system of Section/Rack, Volume/Drawer, Folio.The ten sets of cards appear to have been used as a single reference set to electrical engineering drawings of Victorian Railways and Melbourne Metropolitan Tramway Board.The small cards contain limited information which includes a summary title and plan number. Some cards include initials of the department including Power and Lighting, Substations, Cables, Testing Division.Plan reference numbers include references to plans with prefixes D, F, H, L, M, and Q, which are assumed to be specifically related to the Electrical Engineering Plan Number Prefixes held in the Electrical Engineering Office as these do not conform to the Victorian Railways Plan Room Numbers. They also include references to Air Raid Precautions (Unit 1) and Foreign systems [Mostly NSW Railways] (Unit 2).The large cards contain area name, plan number with prefix at the top of the column, plan date, title, location and indication of what happened to the plan.The relationship of this series with VPRS 12087 Plans and Drawings: Electrification (Electrical Engineering Branch) and VPRS 18283 Victorian Railways Plan Room Control Records, Subsidiary Location Indexes and Registers is subject to further research.
