OPERA DSWx-HLS Flood Extent Mosaics for the 2024 Rio Grande do Sul Floods

Overview These datasets contain the pre-flood and during-flood OPERA Dynamic Surface Water Extent from Harmonized Landsat Sentinel-2 (DSWx-HLS) mosaic products generated for the illustrative example presented in the manuscript OPERA ArcGIS Pro Toolbox: GIS Tools to Access and Analyze NASA's OPERA Data. The mosaics demonstrate the end-to-end workflow of the OPERA ArcGIS Pro Toolbox for downloading, filtering, mosaicking, and analyzing NASA OPERA DSWx-HLS products to map flood inundation during the May 2024 Rio Grande do Sul floods in southern Brazil. The pre-flood mosaic represents baseline surface water conditions from 5–10 April 2024, while the during-flood mosaic represents peak inundation conditions from 5–7 May 2024. These datasets correspond to the flood extent maps presented in Figure 5 of the manuscript and are provided to support reproducibility and enable readers to explore the example data used in the publication. Data Description This repository contains two GeoTIFF raster mosaics: 1. Pre_Flood_Mosaic.tif OPERA DSWx-HLS mosaic representing baseline surface water conditions. Acquisition period: 5–10 April 2024 Generated using the OPERA ArcGIS Pro Toolbox mosaic workflow. 2. During_Flood_Mosaic.tif OPERA DSWx-HLS mosaic representing flood conditions during the peak of the May 2024 Rio Grande do Sul flood event. Acquisition period: 5–7 May 2024 Generated using the OPERA ArcGIS Pro Toolbox mosaic workflow with OPEN_SURFACE_WATER prioritized in overlapping granules to represent the maximum observed flood extent. Source Data Both mosaics were derived from NASA OPERA Level-3 Dynamic Surface Water Extent from Harmonized Landsat Sentinel-2 (DSWx-HLS) products using the OPERA ArcGIS Pro Toolbox. The toolbox was used to: download the relevant OPERA granules, filter the downloaded datasets, mosaic the selected granules into regional composite rasters, and generate the products used in the manuscript's illustrative example. Intended Use These datasets are provided solely as supporting material for the manuscript and reproduce the flood extent visualizations presented in Figure 5. They are intended for demonstration, reproducibility, educational purposes, and further exploration of the OPERA ArcGIS Pro Toolbox workflow rather than as an official operational flood product.
