-Expenditure incurred by undertaking may be divided into two categories. The capital expenditure and revenue or operating expenditure which is realized within a year is known as revenue or operating expenditure whereas expenditure which provides benefit (cash flow) for periods exceeding one year is known as capital expenditure. The key characteristic of capital expenditure is that a major part of the expenditure is made at one point of time and benefits are realized at different points of time.
