Florida Counties Diffusion Analysis

This web map illustrates the Hispanic Distribution of Florida Counties. The map is symbolized to display each county's diffusion score. The U.S. Census Bureau uses the Diffusion Score to measure how widely a population is spread across different racial and ethnic groups, rather than being concentrated in the largest groups. The score is calculated by summing the percentages of all racial and ethnic groups, excluding the top three. A high score (closer to 100%) indicates that a large portion of the population belongs to groups other than the three largest, signifying a high degree of diversity. Conversely, a low score (closer to 0%) means that most of the population is concentrated within the three largest groups, indicating less diversity. For this publication, the Diffusion Score measures Hispanic Origin diversity by quantifying the proportion of people who are not part of the three largest Hispanic Origin groups.
