Biaxial characterization of soft elastomers: Experimental dataset

This dataset contains the experimental raw data from the biaxial mechanical testing of soft elastomers: force-displacement curves and displacement fields for all experimental repetitions. In addition, information on crack onset for each experiment (image at which the propagation of the crack initiates) is included. The data have not been filtered. Every specimen is tested under equi-biaxial tensile loading until full rupture (except for Elastosil 1:1, which develops sideways cracks and giant stretchability).All specimens had a thickness of 2 mm, except for VHB, whose thickness was 0.5 mm. The initial length between grips was set to 85 mm. The files for the force-displacement data (zip file: Force-displacement curves for biaxial experiments) are named according to:- the type of sample (Elastosil_21, Elastosil_85, Elastosil_11, VHB, Sylgard),- the deformation rate (displacement rate of the clamps) (0.85 mm/s),- the initial distance between clamps in both axes (l_0=85 mm),- the average strain rate (edot=0.01 s^-1),- the length of the pre-cut (c10mm),- and the number of the experiment up to the total number of repetitions under the same test conditions (test1, test2, test3, and test4). The files for the DIC displacement fields are named according to:- the type of sample (Elastosil_21, Elastosil_85, Elastosil_11, VHB, Sylgard),- the deformation rate (displacement rate of the clamps) (0.85 mm/s),- the initial distance between clamps in both axes (l_0=85 mm),- the average strain rate (edot=0.01 s^-1),- the length of the pre-cut (c10mm),- and the number of the experiment up to the total number of repetitions under the same test conditions (test1, test2, test3, and test4). Inside each .zip file, all horizontal (u) and vertical (v) displacement fields are provided for each loading stage along the deformation. Information on the acquisition rate of images is provided inside each folder so that each displacement field can be related to a value of the displacement of the clamps during loading.
