资源简介:
This project documents a series of NIST-supported Hurricane Ian workshops that convened researchers, agencies, and practitioners to discuss the state of knowledge on wind, surge, wave, and overland flow hazards and their impacts on the built environment. Using Hurricane Ian as the focal case, the workshops combined post-storm reconnaissance findings, numerical and laboratory modeling results, and forward-looking strategies for measurement science and resilience. The compiled presentations, discussions, and report provide a foundation for advancing hazard modeling, structural response assessment, and standards development. The outcomes of this project can be reused as a reference for developing research agendas, guiding laboratory and numerical benchmark studies, supporting validation of hazard and structural models, and informing funding agencies and professional societies about future needs. The recorded discussions and synthesized notes also provide valuable context for educators and graduate students seeking to understand unresolved challenges in hazard measurement and modeling. The uniqueness of this project lies in its interdisciplinary and multi-agency approach: it brought together federal partners, academic researchers, and professional organizations to focus specifically on lessons from Hurricane Ian while connecting them to long-term resilience strategies. This integration of perspectives allowed the workshops to surface both scientific and practical priorities. The audience includes researchers, graduate students, professional societies, government agencies, and policymakers who seek to understand current limitations and chart coordinated pathways for advancing coastal resilience.
