Discover and clone resistance genes in wild wheat

Crop wild relatives are valuable source of resistance to diseases. The transfer of these genes from wild species to its domesticated brethren involves making wide crosses which takes several years to remove deleterious alleles that were co-introduced with desired alleles. However, cloning of resistance genes is made quicker than it was ever before by exploring pan genomic variation in the resistance genes and combing with association genetics.
