A reciprocal transplant experiment with DOM and bacterial communities from two boreal lakes. In this experiment the two communities were allowed to adapt to their indigenous and foreign DOM pool over 42 days. BCC was measured weekly throughout the experiment.In addition we measured the capacity of the communities to use DOM, in repeated and separated bioassays. The results show a response of bacterial community composition to the DOM which was influenced by the communities. The DOM was a strong selective pressure for the bacterial communities, but did not cause a complete a convergence between the two two communities. The pattern of selection suggest that both communities had species that were well adapted to both DOM pools, but they were not the same species in the two communities.In contrast, we could not show an effect of BCC on DOM processing and functional performance.
