Lagrangian Drifter Laboratory at Scripps Institution of Oceanography Pacific Directional Wave Spectra Drifter (DWSD) Sensor Data

The Lagrangian Drifter Laboratory’s Pacific Directional Wave Spectra Drifter (DWSD) dataset was funded by the National Oceanographic and the Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Global Drifter Program and the NOAA Weather Program Office (WPO). Most of the drifters were equipped with Barometers (DWSBDs). The DWSBDs measure the sea surface temperature, sea level pressure, and evolving wave conditions under large storms that can bring both replenishing and catastrophically damaging rain to the western United States. These observations are used to improve weather forecasting and to better understand the marine boundary layer coupling.
