The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E.Smith), is comprised of two strains (R&C) that are in the process of speciation and serve as a novel system to explore the genomic basis of population divergence. Here, we use high-resolution SNP markers to show that in the field, fall armyworm host strains are largely genetically distinct, but some gene flow still occurs as the result of interstrain hybridization
