12 Quinolone resistant Escherichia coli

The presence of quinolone resistant Escherichia coli (QREC) in the animal reservoir might be of public health concern especially related to acquired quinolone resistance genes encoded on plasmids as they might spread to more pathogenic and disease-causing bacteria. The plasmid-mediated qnrS1 gene is known to be situated on plasmids with different incompatibility (Inc) groups. In this study, the aim was to select QREC strains encoding qnrS1 situated on plasmids with different Inc-groups and to complete circular plasmid contigs. We created hybrid assemblies using data from Illumina and Nanopore minION sequencing.
