Genome sequencing of an Anolis auratus lizard. Anolis auratus

The genome of an Anolis auratus lizard was sequenced and an assembly was produced in support of a project to quantify the effects of genetic changes on phenotype in the natural environments among members of this specious genus. Lizards in the Anolis genus, with over 375 morphologically divergent species derived from repeated colonization events in the Caribbean and mainland, are an ideal model for comparative genomic studies (Losos, 2009). As a widely used vertebrate model for studies of behavioral ecology, experimental ecology, endocrinology, and more recently genomics and developmental biology, a solid foundation exists to address this question.
