Distribution of herbicide sales in EU in 2021, by category

In 2021, the largest share of sales for herbicides, haulm destructors, and moss killers in the European Union (EU) was attributed to organophosphorus herbicides, accounting for 38.2 percent. Organophosphorus herbicides include glyphosate, a commonly used herbicide that has been the subject of controversy due to its potential health and environmental effects. The next two largest categories were herbicides based on amides and anilides at 15.5 percent and other herbicides, which includes aryloxyphenoxy-propionic, pyridyloxyacetic-acid, and triketone herbicides, which accounted for 13.9 percent of sales that year.
