Decolonizing and Reconstructing the Concept of Stigma related to the COVID-19 Pandemic

This thesis centers on redefining the understanding of stigma in the Asian context by challenging Western-centric perspectives. Through a systematic review, qualitative and quantitative empirical studies, the research reveals a dynamic, context-dependent conceptualization of stigma. Focused on Malaysia, the study identifies stigma as negative interactions across various systems, proposing a culturally relevant stigma model. It emphasizes the need for tailored interventions to enhance resilience and well-being. The findings contribute to a broader understanding of how stigma is projected and perceived, thereby promoting inclusivity and cultural sensitivity in addressing societal challenges during the pandemic.
