Transcriptome analysis of the venom gland of Serradigitus gertschi by RNA-seq

The telsons of eight specimens of the Mexican scorpion Serradigitus gertschi were dissected, from which total RNA was extracted. A cDNA library was constructed that was further subjected to RNA-seq by Illumina. The reads were assembled de novo with Trinity and annotated with Trinotate. A total of 17,363,454 reads were obtained, which assembled into 84,835 putative transcripts. From them, 21,410 where identified matching gene sequences in databases. A total of 119 putative transcripts with sequence similarity to venom components were identified.
