Evolution of gallium resistance in Pseudomonas aeruginosa

This project aims to investigate how the pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa evolves resistance towards gallium nitrate, a drug used for the treatment of hypercalcemia of malignancy and recently re-purposed as an antibacterial alternative to fight P. aeruginosa infections. Our goal is to determine what molecular mechanisms are involved in the gallium resistance observed in clinical isolates or evolved experimentally in the lab .
