Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are clonal stem cell disorders characterized by ineffective hematopoiesis and progression to acute myeloid leukemia with myelodysplasia-related changes (AML-MRC). A major mechanism of its pathogenesis is the aberration of the epigenetic landscape of the hematopoietic stem cells and/or progenitor cells, especially DNA cytosine methylation and demethylation. We studied the variants of TET2 in Indian MDS and AML-MRC patients, and their effect on the prognosis of MDS patients.
