Digital Archive from Archaeological Monitoring and Recording along Little St. Mary's Street and Hall Street, Long Melford, Suffolk, January-May 2024

This collection comprises images, spreadsheets, and GIS data from a programme of archaeological monitoring and recording during groundworks associated with the Anglian Water Long Melford Main Reinforcement along Little St. Mary's Street and Hall Street, Long Melford, Suffolk. This work was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology between January and May 2024. The results provided a good topographical and archaeological profile down the full length of Long Melford's main thoroughfare, with evidence of Roman and medieval/post-medieval remains. The depth at which these remains were encountered below the modern street level, when compared to the relative height of extant medieval and early post-medieval buildings flanking either side of the road, suggests that the ground either side of the Long Melford's main thoroughfare has been built-up considerably in the post-Roman period.
