Abstract
Early caregiving experiences play a crucial role in shaping emotional and social development across the lifespan. This study examines how early caregiver rejection impairs emotional self-regulation during preschool years, creating the foundation for insecure attachment patterns that persist into adulthood. Drawing on attachment theory and developmental psychopathology perspectives, the research highlights the impact of insensitive or rejecting caregiving, including neglect, abuse, or institutionalization, on children's ability to regulate emotions effectively. Disorganized attachment patterns often emerge, characterized by fearful, conflicted, or unpredictable behaviors. These carly relational disruptions can lead to long-term difficulties in social competence, peer relationships, and adult romantic and social functioning. Evidence also suggests that interventions, such as foster care placements and child-parent psychotherapy, can mitigate these effects when implemented early. Understanding these mechanisms is essential for nursing practice, child development policies, and therapeutic strategies aimed at promoting resilience and healthy relationships.
