Alphabetically arranged, the volume records: date, name of prisoner, ship and year, original sentence, employer, accuser and witnesses, charge (or crime), sentence (or how disposed of, including acquittals). The title "Black Book" is written on the front cover.At the front of the volume is a letter sent by the Principal Superintendent of Convicts (No.38/98) to the Police Magistrate Patricks Plains dated 3 February 1838 conveying Ticket of Leave Passports (TLPP) for John Lilley, per Minerva 5 (1824) TLPP No.38/10 and Robert Gosling per Planter (1832) TLPP No.38/13.Included on page 146 is a caricature in pencil of a man's head with the words: 'His name is "Poor Bill" The man who got 4000 lashes'.(7/3714; microfilm copy SR Reel 681). 1 vol.NoteThis description, as amended, is extracted from the Concise Guide to the State Archives of New South Wales. 3rd edition, 2000.This volume is significant as a surviving example of a local Black Book.
