VPRS 12027 Returns to the Law Department

This series consists of the annual returns of business presented by the Office of the Public Solicitor to the Secretary of the Law Department. The returns provided summary information pertaining to applications granted and refused for legal assistance. Categories of assistance included in the returns were Criminal Jurisdiction, Supreme Court (Civil, Divorce and Matrimonial), County Court, Worker's Compensation and Miscellaneous.In the Criminal Jurisdiction section, an extended analysis of individual cases was provided in instances where legal aid was granted to accused persons referred by the Attorney General. The individual case analyses recorded the accused, the charge, the verdict and the representing counsel.
