Industrial processes for deconstructing lignocellulosic biomass typically involve harsh thermal or chemical conditions, yet biomass decomposition occurs spontaneously in nature without such pretreatment. In this study, we aimed to gain an understanding of the composition and metabolic potential of a lignocellulosic biomass degrading community that decays poplar wood chips under anaerobic conditions.
