European Leather Masks (ELM) of the early modern period (c. 16th–18th centuries) from ritual to theater — Scientific Corpus v1.0

Early modern European leather masks (c. 16th–18th centuries) constitute one of the rarest categories of artifacts in European theatrical heritage. This dataset represents the first systematic corpus of this type of mask, compiled within the framework of the European Leather Masks (ELM) research project. Each entry includes a physical description, a conservation assessment, photographic documentation, iconographic sources, and bibliographic references. The corpus is based on the direct examination of 57 artifacts held in 21 institutions across 6 European countries and the USA.
