This is an experimental study with the objective of investigating the preventive effects of macauba pulp oil as a source of carotenoids and oleic acid on the intestinal health in C57BL/6 mice fed a high-fat diet. Despite bioactive compounds have shown to alleviate intestinal changes promoted by a high-fat diet, it is not understood the effects of the bioactive compounds, mainly carotenoids and oleic acid of the macauba pulp oil on gut microbiome of male C57BL/6 mice. This study can help to identificate new strategies to improve the gut health based on the macauba pulp oil consumption.
