POLLEN AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSES AT SITE 42EM2517, EAST-CENTRAL UTAH

Samples from the fill of three fire pit/hearth features at Site 42Em2517 in east-central Utah were examined for pollen and macrofloral remains. A soil control sample also was submitted for pollen analysis. Site 42Em2517 is a known rockshelter with multiple components including Archaic, Formative, Late Prehistoric, and Historic. An excavation block was placed within and in front of the rockshelter, with additional excavation units placed to the east and west of the rockshelter. Pollen and macrofloral analyses were conducted on fill from one hearth situated in front of the rockshelter and from one hearth and one fire pit found east of the rockshelter to determine plant resources processed in these features, as well as types of wood burned as fuel.
