Microbial community of Biological Oxygen-dosed Activated Carbon (BODAC) granules detached biofilms

Biological Oxygen-dosed Activated Carbon (BODAC) filters showed the potential to remove organic micropollutants (OMPs). One of the mechanisms behind OMPs removal in BODAC filters is thought to be biodegradation. In this study, the biodegradation potential of some OMPs of interest by BODAC whole granules (WG, i.e., granules collected before the backwashing procedure) and detached biofilms (DB, collected from backwash water that was sampled within the first 5 minutes of air flushing) was evaluated. As accompanying information, microbial community profiles in DB samples used in the experiment were also investigated.
