This report describes the design and operation of a digital weather radar signal processing device. Weather echoes are smoothed through integration to provide improved estimates of precipitation intensity. Two output channels are provided: (1) a digital minicomputer interface and (2) radar display interface providing amplitude-coded video. The DVIP accepts raw radar logarithmic video information and enhances the intensity information, providing both digital and encoded analog outputs in a variety of selectable range increments and smoothing time constants .
