The goal of the study was to aid parental analysis of the ultra-rare endemic Wahlenbergia (bellflower) species of St Helena (South Atlantic Ocean). Polymoprhic plastid markers were developed to enable discrimination of plastotypes within and between species. These markers will generate breeding system data that is of direct relevance for the conservation of these species.
