First report of Blastocystis spp. subtypes in zoo animals in Slovakia, Central Europe

Manuscript is based on our study, which presents laboratory proof of Blastocystis spp. species and subtypes in zoo animals in Slovakia. The meaning of blastocysts mammal infections in the last two decades has markedly increased mostly due to their frequent occurrence in relatively healthy populations of susceptible hosts. Therefore it is important to monitor the prevalence of Blastocystis spp. based on direct evidence and molecular identification of pathogen in animals.
