VPRS 7641 Unregistered Plans

This series contains maps and plans of a diverse nature.A major part of the series consists of maps of the Commonwealth Electoral Divisions and the State Electoral Districts and Provinces of various Australian states. Maps descriptive of the boundaries of electoral provinces and districts appear to have been drawn up in accordance with the verbal description of the boundaries contained in the schedules to various Acts. These were issued by the Chief Secretary, approved by the Governor-in-Council and authenticated by the signature of the Surveyor-General. They were apparently received by Parliament as evidence of the boundaries of districts, provinces and divisions and issued to be used by the Collectors, Registrars, Revision Courts and Returning Officers in the discharge of their duties.Major railway plans in Western Australia, South Australia, State of Victoria and railway and tramway plans for Melbourne also form part of this series.Plans of the opening of the Federal Parliament in Melbourne in 1907, the proposed capital site (Canberra), and floor plans of the Canberra Parliament House, are also included as are some geographical maps of South Australia, Australia, Europe and South Pacific Islands.It appears that the plans and maps in this series have been collected or received by the Legislative Council and the Federal Parliament from different sources for different reasons.
