As arguably the most successful and abundant intracellular bacterium known to the natural world, Wolbachia is an essential component of invertebrate and nematode biology but is comparatively understudied regarding its genomic landscape and molecular mechanisms. To increase this knowledge and gain insight into the parasite biology, we report the closed and annotated genome of strain wOl that was extracted from short-read Illumina sequence data from the filarial nematode Onchocerca lupi. The complete, circular genome is 955,902 bp.
