The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), through its Environmental Protection Division (EPD), requires a protected buffer zone along both sides of perennial streams under its Stream Corridor Criteria for Small Water Supply Watersheds. This rule generally mandates that a minimum 100-foot vegetated buffer be maintained horizontally from the stream’s wrested vegetation line on each side, creating a protected corridor intended to safeguard water quality, reduce erosion and sedimentation, filter pollutants, moderate stream temperature, and preserve natural habitat.
