VPRS 18777 Soundings Plans

This series comprises soundings plans created by the Melbourne Harbor Trust Commissioners, and after it was abolished, the Port of Melbourne Authority. This is an artificial series as it contains plans from multiple recordkeeping systems, as shown in the record item listing by the varied control numbers used on the plans. Due to the small quantity of the plans, they have been grouped together by their recording agencies as those agencies performed largely the same functions over time. The plans primarily depict soundings taken around Port Phillip Bay. Soundings are measurements of the depth of the sea floor at the time of survey. They are shown as rows of numbers on the plans corresponding to the measurement taken at each point.  These records were transferred to PROV from the Queenscliff Maritime Museum.
