PAN TRAP DATA SHEET ECOLOGY LAB 3

Methods description:This experiment was done on Thursday oct2/2014, at york university keele campus. We went to the wood lot to gather and record the number of insects captured .To start with we assembled 9 bowls of 3 different colours in a grid fashion in order to make a grid where each colour was kept parallel to each other in a straight line that mean that each of the 3 blue bowls were in line 1, white bowls in line 2 and and so on . This experiment was repeated twice, once in the grass land and one in the woodlot, therefore there was a total of 18 bowls to be examined by the end of the lab. These bowls were filled with soup water that worked as a cages metaphorically speaking so that the the insects gets trapped as soon as they get in the soupy water At the end of the lab we came back to count the number of insects in each bowl, and identify them into different taxonomic units.. All the bowls set in the grassland had insects in them,While 2 out of 9 bowls set in the woodland didn't have any insects in the.This may be because we set the bowls under a tree in the woodlot so therefore it was hypothesized that the insects were not able to reach the bowls.
