The complete mitochondrial genome of Crassostrea (Magallana) saidii (Bivalvia: Ostreidae): An endemic oyster lineage from Muar, Johor, Malaysia

Comprehensive genomic resources for tropical oyster species remain limited despite the increasing importance in aquaculture and coastal ecosystems. This study presents the first complete mitochondrial genome characterization of Muar oyster, Crassostrea (Magallana) saidii. The circular mitochondrial genome measured 21,500 base pairs (bp) and comprised 13 protein-coding genes, 23 transfer RNA genes and 4 ribosomal RNA genes, including two copies each of rrnS and rrnL. Gene arrangement and orientation were identical to those reported in ten available oysters mitogenome, indicating strong structural conservation within the genus. The genetic information from this study provides a robust genomic foundation for subsequent research on this endemic species.
