Myxobacteria have provided a wealth of secondary metabolites with vast chemical diversity and biological activities. In an effort to uncover and explore myxobacterial natural product biosynthetic pathways, the genome of Cystobacter ferrugineus Cbfe23, DSM 52764 was sequenced. The sequence was examined using antiSMASH 3.0.0 and 44 putative secondary metabolite gene clusters were identified including biosynthetic pathways for 10 terpene synthases, 8 nonribosomal peptide synthase (NRPS) clusters, 6 lantipeptides, 6 bacteriocins, 3 hybrid NRPS-polyketide synthase (PKS) clusters, 2 type III PKS synthases, and 2 type I PKS clusters.
