Redistribution of the map: tree rows in Northern Belgium on the topographical map of 1873 (1860-1873)

Displays the location of rows of trees, as shown on the 1873 topographic map (created between 1860-1873). The dépôt de la guerre (predecessor of the current NGI) usually represented rows of trees as a linear pattern of thicker dots, for example along roads, field boundaries, or embankments. Using AI and GIS, they have been processed into lines. Not all types of tree rows are represented by the legend, but on the map they can be recognized as avenues or standing alone in an open landscape. They also occur on ramparts, visually represented as a black jagged double line with black dots in between. Purpose of creation: Suitable for landscape research, landscape ecology, and studies on landscape perception, as well as for selecting appropriate locations for the (re)planting of hedgerows and tree rows based on cultural-historical patterns.
