Suspended sediment concentration profile in flow through a Typha latifolia canopy

This study used laboratory experiments and random
displacement model (RDM) to investigate the distributions of suspended sediment
concentration (SSC) within a Typha latifolia canopy. The SSC profile in the Typha
canopy differed significantly from the profile in open channel. a model for
vertical diffusivity was validated with tracer data within cylinder array and
then modified to reflect the specific morphology of the Typha canopy.
RDM simulations using the modified diffusivity model produced good agreement
with the measured suspended sediment concentration. This work could provide
insight into guiding marsh restoration and land-building.
