This dataset contains the raw data and results files from the article by Van Wassenbergh, Ortlieb, Mielke, Böhmer, Shadwick & Abourachid. This includes all high-speed video images of beak impacts that were used in the analyses. Raw kinematic data (pixel coordinates) with scale factors are also provided. A MATLAB Simulink model file for the multibody dynamics simulations of a woodpecker beak impacting wood are provided. Results from Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations of water-filled brain cavities under deceleration shocks give the raw data output to evaluate the inertial loading on the brains.
